State Insect
Alaska designated a dragonfly as the official state insect in 1995. It won among 4 insect contestants voted on by Alaskan schoolchildren. This dragonfly was perched atop a decaying marsh Labrador tea plant waiting for a mosquito or other insect to snack on. Location: Alaska Inside Passage.
