This crab species can grow up to 5" long and is usually found in the Pacific west of Mexico but extends into California during an El Niño event. I met this critter in the Channel Islands off of Ventura, CA in early August about 10' below the surface. It would take a few strokes, eat as its doing in this image, rinse, and repeat.
