I often get asked why I choose to live in Oakland, and not even in "the nice parts." This is just one example that illustrates the culture here: people care deeply about things beyond their backyards, street art is revered on the same level as studio art, and this fantastic mural happens to be next door to the best banh mi joint in the Bay Area.
