Acorn Granary

Acorn Woodpeckers drill holes into the bark/wood of trees to store the acorns they collect. These granaries can be very large with thousands of acorns stored for later use by the flock. This close-up is of a tree (a cedar) on Mt. Tamalpais. In recent years, flocks of Acorn Woodpeckers have moved to LBNL, you can catch their raucous calls around the lab.
